       BACKGROUND INFORMATION :                 
                        
The Philippine Bleeding-Heart Pigeons Conservation Program is a collaborative project between the DENR-PAWB and Bristol, Clifton and West England Zoological Society (BCWEZS). The Program was established thru a Memorandum of Agreement by and between the said Parties. Under the Program, BCWEZS is primarily responsible for the implementation of activities to conserve and propagate the country's endemic and endangered species, particularly the Philippine Bleeding Heart Pigeons.
                          
       OBJECTIVES :                
       
    *      To determine the distribution and status of the Philippine Bleeding-Heart Pigeons in the wild, particularly in Southern Luzon, Catanduanes, Marinduque,l Mindoro, Basilan and Sulu Islands, and in other areas as may be agreed by both Parties in the future;
    *      To develop a properly structured in-situ (in-country) conservation breeding programs, initially for Negros Bleeding-heart Pigeon (Gallicolumba keayi) in Negros but perhaps to include other species in other locations as may be appropriate and agreed by the Parties in the future;
    *      To assist in the improvement of existing and/or development of new conservation centers and regional biodiversity programmes in the country, especially in West Visayas, Mindoro and Southern Luzon;
    *      To promote and facilitate appropriate training for Filipino scientist and other local personnel on biodiversity survey and other conservation-related researches;
    *      To promote public awareness on Philippine Bleeding-heart Pigeons through organization of local biodiversity conservation workshops/flora and production of educational materials; and
    *      To promote protection of critical habitats in West Visayas, Miindoro and Southern Luzon through provision of assistance to local NGOs, GOs, and other sectors in these areas and in other local locations as may be agreed by the Parties in the future.
                 
       ACCOMPLISHMENTS :
                        
       ON-GOING ACTIVITIES:
                
                       *      Conduct of field status surveys on Philippine Bleeding-heart Pigeons on identified habitats in the Philippines.
