A significant step has been
initiated by the DENR through the issuance of the Implementing
Rules and Regulations of the National Caves and Cave Resources
Conservation and Protection Act (RA 9072) on 7 July 2003. Caves
are part of our natural heritage, possessing outstanding
historical, educational, cultural, scientific and aesthetic
values. They also serve as habitat of unique diverse flora and
fauna. Protecting these caves will ensure conservation of the
resources therein.
To date, there are three (3)
significant caves proclaimed as protected areas, namely: (1)
Penablańca Protected Landscape in Cagayan, (2) Pamitinan
Protected Landscape in Rodriguez, Rizal and (3) Calbiga Caves
Protected Landscape in Samar.
