The Bureau continues to establish links and cooperation with various local and international institutions that paved the way for technical cooperation and financial assistance for the conservation of biodiversity nationwide.

Coral Triangle Initiative

The CTI on Coral Reefs, Fisheries, and Food Security is a multilateral partnership among the governments of Indonesia, East Timor, Philippines, Malaysia, Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands to conserve the extraordinary marine life in the region. The proposal was endorsed in the Sydney APEC Leaders' Declaration on Climate Change, Energy Security and Clean Development.  U.S. President George W. Bush welcomed this Initiative during the Summit. 

The CTI may be considered as one of the areas of cooperation in pursuance of the Singapore Declaration on Climate Change, Energy and Environment and a discussion on this during the meeting may also be intended to generate possible funding support from the US for the implementation of the CTI Plan of Action. The Plan is due for finalization during the 2^nd Senior Officials Meeting in the Philippines. 

 Accomplishments 

·        In the process of preparing the Philippine Plan of Action that will serve as input to the CTI Plan of Action, regional consultation  workshops (Visayas, Mindanao and Luzon)  were undertaken

·        Regular meetings of the CTI Secretariat were conducted for the preparations of the CTI Senior Officials Meeting 2
