The Lungsod Kalikasan inside the premises of the Ninoy Aquino Parks and Wildlife Center has been home to several species of doves and pigeons. These birds were rescued from the illegal wildlife trade and rehabilitated to a healthy state, with intentions of returning them back to their natural habitat.

Last February 14, 2012, Wildlife Rescue Center (WRC) caretakers found a Green imperial pigeon, Ducula aenea (Figure I), egg hatched after about a week of seeing an adult pigeon nesting. It is now grown and has complete feathers and has started to learn to fly. A green imperial pigeon was again seen incubating a new egg on April 30.

On March 20, 2012, a Nicobar pigeon, Caloenas nicobarica (Figure II), was seen creating a nest among the top leaves of one of the palm trees. Currently, the pigeon is constantly staying inside the nest.

Truly, the Ninoy Aquino Parks and Wildlife Center is a heaven within the City, not just for those wanting some peace from the hustle and bustle of the City, but also for our wildlife species.
